Context

The app allows users to track art supplies for a studio based in Paris, due to the high end location, close proximity and quality they offer a more bespoke service.

The problem - Students, workers and parents need their items as soon as possible at a time that suits them.

The goal - Design a tracking app for Art Pour Toi that allows users to easily get their items delivery quickly and efficiently which suits them.

Discovery

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I'm designing for and their needs. A primary users group identified through research was students/ workers who need their supplies quickly for assessments and deadlines.

The user group confirmed initial assumptions about Art Pour Toi, but research also revealed that parents and people who were getting into art as a hobby just didn't have time and felt it was difficult ordering when in the past it's taken a while to come down and when it does they're not home.

Design

Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensure that the elements that made it to the digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen, I prioritised a quick and easy tracking process to help users see the full detail of where they order has been and will go.

I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings for the first study helped guide the design from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.

Summary

Impact:
The app makes users feel like Art Pour Toi gives a bespoke delivery experience and really thinks about their needs.

One quote from feedback was
‘'The app is great, if I can choose when my order arrives! It feels like I'm actually getting a premium service than having to wonder when it'll arrive.’

What I learned:
While designing the Art Pour Toi app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app's design and my knowledge going forward.
